Thoroughly enjoyed a really good game played in the right spirit....I don't think anyone got booked, did they? End to end football, plenty of good interpassing moves, dozens of chances from both sides, ball cleared off the line, post struck twice, great exhibitions of goalkkeping from both keepers....and a good attendance (178 for those in the "Guess the crowd " competition).
I thought 1-1 was a fair result although I think some may disagree!
The opening exchanges were equal but Nick Culkin had the most work to do, making a couple of fine saves. We were great up ro the penalty area but then there seemed to be that little bit of hesitancy when the goalposts came insight....as though we were scared to take the "risk" of shooting! Don't worry about it guys....just "WELLY IT" (FA Coaching Manual page 154). Salford began to take control and Fozzy got his typical poacher's goal from around the 6 inch area! He almost had a second but the athletic young Fozzy from OUR team raced back to clear the ball as it was about to cross the line.
We played much better the second half but there was still that reluctance to welly it and the ball was often passed when a strike might have been the better option. Tom Brooks was having a great game, but sadly went off injured (let's hope it's not long term) and Matty was industrious as ever. Sammo looked great on his return as did Shaun....it was as if they'd never been away!
Our strikers became fired up in the second half and Dorsey made two brilliant saves (the one from Adam was World Class)....while at the other end Nick was equally brilliant, particularly with the one he pushed onto the post.....thrilling stuff. Boro's pressure paid dividends as full time was about to expire, with captain Mark Jones being rewarded for all his hard work with a fine goal. Honours even and a brilliant afternoon's entertainment! Well done both teams....now can we just have ONE website please so I can see who's won the "Guess the Crowd" competition???
